Marx is a recurring side character in Motto! Hoshi no Kaabii, debuting in the episode Prankster Demon: Marx. Since then, he has settled down in Whispy's Woods, visiting Cappy Town frequently. Though he makes many incidental appearances, he does not play a major story role until much later in the series.

Appearance
Marx has a small, round body with two nubby feet typical of many Kirby characters. His main body is a light purple, and implied to be covered in short fur at several points in the series. He is only seen without his shoes a few times, but his feet are a light brown and appear to be stylized paws. Instead of normal arms he has a pair of yellow wings with heart shaped ends; the wings each have two claws that he uses as hands. His wings lack a skin membrane, but occasionally will produce floating multi-colored hexagonal panels when he uses magic. His right eye is red, while his left eye is blue. His teeth are sharp, and was noted by Dr.Yabui to be reminiscent of feline dentition.
During his earlier appearances, he was shown wearing a faded and roughly patched jester hat, which was half teal and half pink with points ending in white pom-poms. After being gifted new clothes in [episode name], he wears a more vibrant, half-red half-blue jester hat more similar to his video game appearances. He wears brown boots and a red ribbon tied at what has been referred to as his "neck".
Personality
Marx, on the surface, comes off as aloof and mischievous, often either watching events unfold with detached amusement or actively inciting problems out of boredom. Cappytown residents remark on multiple occasions that he often causes a minor nuisance whenever he comes into town, playing pranks both by himself or alongside the local children. He also has a reputation for being somewhat tempramental, as his mood can turn sour and cause him to storm off seemingly out of nowhere. Still, most Dreamlanders seem to regard him as a harmless, silly prankster.
Underneath the act, he is shown to be far more calculating and deliberate in his actions than his outwards persona comes off. He occasionally slips and makes comments that betray his intelligence, though he often tries to downplay it through jokes. He is deeply curious and loves to read, with a preference for dense academic publications. His public persona as an airheaded prankster stems from both a desire to not be seen as a threat and a deep distrust towards people, due to his experience as a high profile demon beast on the run. Once he is comfortable with a person, he's much more eager to drop the jokester act and talk about his other interests.
Relationships
- Nightmare: The creator of most demon beasts, including Marx (though somewhat indirectly). Marx mentions having had to take extra measures to evade magical surveillance from Nightmare before his demise at Kirby's hands, and holds him in open contempt. Nightmare and his company was behind the initial bounties placed on Marx's capture, setting him up for a lifetime of being shunned by society and hunted by opportunists.
- Gryll: Marx's first and closest friend, having previously lived as street urchins together. They were separated some time ago, and Marx assumed she was dead until being reunited in [ep where Drawcia and Gryll visit]. She is quite protective of Marx, often being more eager to incite violence on his behalf than Marx himself is. The two of them are extremely affectionate with each other and are frequently seen hanging out very closely together even in background appearances.
- Fumu: Though often frustrated by Marx's mischief, she shares his love for academic pursuits and is shown to be one of the few people Marx seems to trust even remotely. She still ends up scolding him over something or the other more often than not, but he doesn't seem to mind that much.
- Bun: The first acquaintance Marx makes in Dreamland. He, along with the rest of his friend group, are frequently seen playing with Marx until later in the series.
- Kirby: Marx frequently plays with Kirby, initially due to their shared friend group. As time goes on, Kirby spends more time playing with him without the other Dreamland kids around. He often goes along with Marx's minor pranks happily, though he doesn't hesitate to voice his dissent if he doesn't like a particular plan. As the Dreamland kids grow older, Kirby looks to Marx more and more for friendship and, regrettably for Marx, guidance.
- Magolor: Post-Halcandra arc, he seems to be the primary target for Marx's late night whims, as he lives closer to Whispy's Woods than anyone else. Magolor seems to be quite vexed and frustrated by Marx's jester persona; as a fellow mage, he sees right through Marx's act of vague incompetence and knows his true skill level. Marx thoroughly enjoys bothering Magolor.
- Efilin: As a fellow product of HNC's Chimera Project, they are technically blood relatives. Marx reluctantly takes up a role approximating an older brother after Efilin comes to Dreamland. They look up to him as a more experienced relative, and is trusting of him to a degree that even Marx himself is wary of. Though Marx gladly ropes them into mischief, he's shown to also be watching Efilin's behaviour carefully to prevent any serious mishaps.
Notable Appearances
- Prankster Demon: Marx: His debut appearance; he appears to Bun and co as they were conspiring to play pranks on King Dedede until he lost his composure and lost their bet.
- Mayoral Mayhem: When Fumu organizes Dreamland's first democratic election in the wake of Len's retirement, Marx joins the race as a joke. He ends up as the runner-up in the race, after which he steps out of the running in a panic. Though flustered by his campaign's unexpected success, he seemed to be genuinely touched by the Cappies' acceptance of him as part of the community, and his background appearances rise in frequency after this episode.
Trivia
- The teal and pink coloration for Marx's first hat is likely a reference to Marx Soul, who does not make an appearance in the show.
